The swoopy SUV segment, once thought to be a fleeting trend, is here to stay. Competing with the Mercedes GLC Coupe and the soon-to-be-phased-out BMW X4, the new Audi Q5 Sportback is predictably familiar. It’s essentially the 2025 Q5 with a coupe-inspired twist, aiming for a sleeker silhouette though opinions on its aesthetic appeal may vary. From launch, there will also be a high-performance SQ5 variant.
One welcome change in the SQ5 is the elimination of fake exhaust tips. Audi has listened to customer feedback and removed these from its latest models, including the new S5. The SQ5 Sportback has also ditched the diesel engine that was available in the previous generation in Europe. Now, it comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 gasoline engine producing 362 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, mirroring the powertrain found in the new S5.

The lineup includes other engine options: a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 201 hp and a 2.0-liter diesel with the same horsepower but 295 lb-ft of torque. The SQ5 and diesel versions come with Quattro all-wheel drive as standard, while the base gasoline engine offers front-wheel drive with optional Quattro. All models use a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and Audi hints at future plug-in hybrid options.
As expected, the Sportback’s sloping roofline compromises practicality. It offers up to 50 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded, 2 cubic feet less than the regular Q5. The design reduces vertical cargo capacity, limiting the transport of taller items.

Visually, aside from the sloped roof and slightly tweaked rear, the Sportback closely resembles the standard Q5. Inside, higher-end trims feature a triple-screen setup, including a display for the front passenger. The interior design mirrors that of the new Q5 and A5 models.
Built on the updated Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), an evolution of the MLB Evo, the Q5 Sportback marks a shift in Audi’s lineup. The brand has decided to cease production of its two-door cars due to declining demand, with the A5 Coupe and Convertible joining the TT and R8 in discontinuation.

In Germany, the Sportback starts at €54,800, just €150 more than the regular Q5. The SQ5 Sportback begins at €85,400, a €2,500 premium over the SQ5. US pricing and details will be announced later, with European orders opening in December.
