There's a new Kia Carnival in town. The small car of the year 2025 looks SUV-like as ever thanks to the striking new face. But there's more to Carnival than meets the eye. The same can be said for the K5 sedan, which also wears new clothes for the 2025 model year.
Updates for the 2025 Kia Carnival are numerous. It is impossible to miss the square face, which now makes the big four-sided grille of Kia, surrounded by cubic lights and the "Star Map" lights of the car manufacturer. It features a chiseled and vertical design, giving the car a stylish SUV look. Fresh fish and small fish fillets add to the flavor of the beef, especially when the optional skid plate is added to Carnival's fish. It's only when you look to the side that you notice the sliding side doors, reminding you that this really is a small car up front.

And that's not a bad thing. The cabin offers a generous 145.1 cubic feet of cargo space and the second and third rows are removed. Place them where passengers can enjoy the comfortable second-row seating with dinette seats and footwells. All passengers can participate in the Car Rear Cockpit connected entertainment option, which brings multiple 14.6-inch HD monitors into the cabin.
Meanwhile, up front, there's a new dashboard and center console that, despite being made on the outgoing Carnival, includes more technology inside. We took a look at the design back in December, featuring smaller touch buttons and a shifter in place of an old-school joystick. Kia's Connected Car Navigation Cockpit works with features such as quick setup times, adding frequently used features to an easy-to-access screen, Digital Key 2 that allows smart devices such as phones and - Act as a key to live updates.

Under the hood, a new hybrid powertrain option is available. It combines a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with a 54 kW motor, producing an output of 242 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. It's mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, but it's worth noting that this isn't a plug-in hybrid, so it's not electric-only. For those who prefer their Carnival without electrification, the familiar 3.5-liter V6 is still available. However, output drops slightly to 287 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
Kia hasn't abandoned the sedan crowd. Joining Carnival is the refreshed 2025 K5, although the changes aren't dramatic here. The new front fascia retains the familiar grille shape but adds larger corner openings. The headlights are also updated, incorporating the aforementioned "Star Map" LED signature that resembles the K5's protective headlights. The new rear fender continues the theme, with a modified rear fender and a new panel that features an integrated spoiler as standard.

The interior of the Kia K5 gets a new control cluster under the central air vent. Kia offers less standard equipment on some trims, including the EX, which has an upgraded Bose stereo, 10-way driver's seat, steering wheel and Digital Key system. The latest thing in the K5 is something you can't see, which is a desirable 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that replaces the 1.6-liter turbo in the non-GT version. Power stands at 191 hp, a slight increase over the outgoing K5. The GT is still a bit noisy with a 2.5-liter turbocharged base, making 290 hp.
Both cars will debut at the 2024 Chicago Auto Show, which will open to the public on February 10. Pricing for the 2025 Carnival and K5 will be announced closer to their on-sale date, which is expected later this year.
